[Tech] Microsoft abbandona il settore dei prodotti Wi-Fi

Dopo appena due anni dalla sua creazione, la divisione Microsoft che si occupa di prodotti hardware per "gli" standard Wi-Fi (802.11b e 802.11g) viene di fatto smobilitata:

"After careful evaluation, the Microsoft hardware group has decided to scale back its broadband hardware and networking business," a representative said. "Instead, the plan is to apply the knowledge we have gained in that category to future products and services."

The company had quickly gained market share in the wireless networking market but lost some ground when it was slower than rivals in introducing 802.11g products.



Microsoft had a complete line of Wi-Fi products including base stations, laptop cards, and USB and PCI add-ons for desktop machines.

Microsoft assicura che i prodotti della linea 802.11g, i più tecnologicamente aggiornati, saranno ancora disponibili per alcuni mesi; saranno reperibili ancora per qualche tempo anche alcuni prodotti della linea 802.11b (praticamente, fino a esaurimento scorte).



Per quanto riguarda il supporto tecnico a questi prodotti, esso non andrà oltre i due anni standard di garanzia.
