[Tech] Proposto un TLD specifico per i siti 'mobile Internet'

TLD sta per Top-Level Domain e identifica la parte più a destra dell'indirizzo di un server Web (ad esempio, .com, .it, .net, .info etc.)



L'iniziativa ha lo scopo di rendere maggiormente trasparente e "amichevole" l'offerta di siti e servizi dedicati agli utenti Internet che si collegano alla rete tramite dispositivi cellulari di ultima generazione (GPRS, UMTS, i-Mode).

In that vein, Arbogast (Microsoft's corporate vice president of the MSN Communications Platform) says he expects the move will open access to mobile content and to peer-to-peer content.



The joint venture members say they want to build a system that can support the growth of Internet-enabled mobile devices accessing new content.

Le aziende che hanno avanzato la proposta sono: Microsoft, Nokia, Vodafone, Hewlett-Packard, Hutchinson 3G UK, Samsung, Sun, Orange, e la GSM Association.



La richiesta ufficiale verrà presentata all'ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) la prossima settimana; se tutto andrà come previsto, il registry del nuovo TLD potrebbe essere operativo per la seconda metà del 2005.
