[Tech] Microsoft: un IBM PowerPC per Xbox

Il processore della prossima versione di Microsoft Xbox non sarà, a sorpresa, un Intel o un AMD, ma un PowerPC IBM.



Microsoft ha usato un processore Intel nella sua precedente console Xbox, e fino a pochi giorni fa sembrava intenzionata a prendere in considerazione un microprocessore AMD per la nuova versione.



Poi, il colpo di scena: la nuova Xbox sarà "powered by IBM":

Richard Doherty, of Seaford, New York-based Envisioneering, a technology advisory company, said that IBM's PowerPC chips consume less power and run cooler than other chips.

"Intel had wrestled away the design win for Xbox from AMD at the last minute, and this will probably be quite a surprise to Santa Clara this morning that the next generation from their ally in system design, Microsoft, is going to their rival," Doherty said.

La nuova generazione di Xbox dovrebbe essere annunciata ufficialmente da Bill Gates nel prossimo gennaio, e arriverà sugli scaffali dei negozi entro il prossimo autunno.
