Al confronto Abu Grahib era una beauty farm, verrebbe da dire: negli ultimi giorni le autorità sciite e quelle del governo provvisorio iracheno hanno denunciato la scoperta a Najaf di fosse comuni con almeno 200 cadaveri di persone torturate e uccise (per la maggior parte donne e bambini) dai miliziani sciiti di Moqtada Al Sadr e hanno documentato una serie impressionante di devastazioni e saccheggi e la ripetuta profanazione da parte degli integralisti di Al Sadr del Mausoleo di Alì.

Atrocities unveiled in aftermath of fight in Najaf

Interior Ministry has set up a committee to investigate reports of atrocities fighters of dissident preacher Moqtada al-Sadr are said to have committed.



The ministry specially wants to examine mass graves newly discovered in the city which saw some of the worst fighting in the country in recent months.



Najaf’s governor, Adnan Marzouq, has mobilized the city’s police contingent to hunt down members of the so-called Sharia (jurisdiction) Court believed to have sentenced scores of the preacher’s opponents to death.



Interior Ministry spokesperson Sabah Kadhem told the newspaper that the authorities had also received information of mass killings at the hands of Sadr’s fighters.



"There are reports talking about the uncovering a mass grave specifically dug for the victims of the (Sharia) Court which belonged to Sadr. We are investigating these reports," Kadhem said.



The formation of the investigation committee comes a few days after the discovery by Najaf police of 28 bodies during their search of weapons and explosives in the city.



In their report to the ministry the police say they have identified the bodies and now they believe most of them are of colleagues Sadr’s men kidnapped and later killed.



State Minister Qassem Dawood has recently announced the discovery of 200 bodies, mainly of women and children and other civilians who were killed in the fighting in Najaf.



In an interview in the state-run al-Iraqiya television channel, Minister of Provincial Affairs Wael Abdel-Latif has already confirmed that the 200 bodies were of those who were summarily executed by Sadr’s squads.



Peace returned to Najaf late last month after a truce between the Sadr’s rebels and US-led forces.



The investigations are possible to undertake because Sadr and his fighters were obliged to leave Najaf under the agreement.



Rotten bodies were even found within the holy sanctuary of Imam Ali which Sadr and many of his rebels had taken as a refuge.



Tales of atrocities abound in Najaf whose residents for the first time feel secure to talk in the absence of Sadr’s rebels.



Residents even speak of priceless objects removed from warehouses belonging to Imam Ali’s Mausoleum.



Ali al-Mausawi described the three weeks of intense fighting in Najaf "as a nightmare."



"We were scared to talk for fear of being taken to Sadr’s (Sharia) Court and punished. Once there, you were bound to be punished whether found guilty or not," he said.



Kadhem Naama, 85, is still looking for his son who was taken away by Sadr’s rebels and still can find no trace of him.



Dhargham Kofi says the judges in the court were either Iranians or Afghans.



"Four turbaned judges issued the rulings which included horrific physical penalties such as the amputation of hands and legs. Many residents have died as a result," he said.



Thousands of people have demonstrated in the city to protest the atrocities and ask the government to never let Sadr and his supporters return.



Harith Rajab said while some members of Sadr’s Mahdi Army were involved in atrocities others were engaged in robbing Imam Ali’s shrine of its prized possessions.



"They (Sadr’s rebels) have stolen magnificent pieces whose value is beyond any estimation," he said.



He mentioned manuscripts, rare coins and daggers made of gold and decorated with gems.



Kadhem of the Interior Ministry said grand Shiite clerics and their representatives in cooperation with the government are now checking the inventories to see what has gone missing from the shrine, holy to Muslims all over the world and particularly to Shiites.



A few residents said among the stolen items were the presents which the former Shah of Iran had offered to the shrine.



The Interior Ministry declined comment on whether the Shah’s presents were missing.

Quella era una vergognosa eccezione; le fosse comuni, le torture, le amputazioni di braccia e gambe anche a donne e bambini, le decapitazioni, gli sgozzamenti sono invece la regola per questi integralisti islamici.



Vengono in mente le stronzate scritte a suo tempo, in relazione ad Abu Grahib, dalla solita collaborazionista d'Egitto che, mentendo sapendo di mentire, scriveva: (Ma ti ricordi, solo nel '91, quando gli iracheni fecero prigioniera la soldatessa USA e lei, una volta libera, raccontò che erano stati tutti gentili, i suoi carcerieri, "quasi galanti", e l'unica cosa che le era mancato era lo zucchero nel caffè? Chissà quanti se lo ricordano, ed era solo il '91.) Bene, io ricordo benissimo, e ricordo come fosse ieri che, dopo le dichiarazioni tranquillizzanti rilasciate a uso e consumo dell'opinione pubblica, già notevolmente incazzata con Saddam, le due soldatesse dichiararono, nelle audizioni ufficiali, di essere state "violentate dappertutto" - parole loro, inserite nel rapporto ufficiale - e di non avere mai goduto, pur essendo entrambe militari combattenti, di un trattamento anche lontanamente comparabile con quello previsto dalla Convenzione di Ginevra sui prigionieri di guerra. Altro che zucchero nel caffè...



Ricordate l'orrore, la condanna unanime dei pacifinti, l'accusa di profanazione e di sacrilegio rivolta alle truppe americane che, durante l'assedio ai miliziani di Al Sadr che si erano barricati in armi nel mausoleo di Alì (profanandolo, loro sì, con la propria presenza: come se dei brigatisti rossi si fossero barricati con i loro Ak-47 nel Duomo di Milano o in San Pietro in Roma) avevano per errore scheggiato alcuni decimetri quadrati della cupola del mausoleo?



Ora, sulle lattine di birra (centinaia) che i "bravi musulmani osservanti" di Al Sadr hanno lasciato all'interno del principale luogo sacro degli sciiti, sui cadaveri ritrovati anche all'interno del mausoleo, sul furto di opere d'arte e di oggetti sacri, sulle torture e le uccisioni in massa perpetrate dai miliziani e testimoniate dalla popolazione di Najaf oltre che dalle autorità sia laiche che religiose irachene, da parte dei pacifinti neanche una parola, un sussurro, un accenno di indignazione e/o di condanna.



Il solito, assordante silenzio, rotto a tratti dai conati di vomito dei negazionisti:

Esiste una cosa chiamata "società islamica?" Ma quale, ma dove? Ce ne sono migliaia. Le donne non hanno voce? Ma in che senso, chi te l'ha detto, quale voce? Di che parliamo, di donne? No, non di donne. Di guerra. Ci hanno dichiarato guerra. No, aspetta: chi? Chi è che ci ha dichiarato guerra, di preciso? Se mi affaccio alla finestra, in questo momento, c'è Bastawi sotto che mi fa ciao con la mano. Che stai dicendo? Cosa devi difendere? Qual è la nostra civiltà? Superiore? In che senso, per fare cosa?

Già, come si fa anche solo a pensare che ci siano dei problemi con la società islamica (anzi, con le "migliaia di società islamiche") se c'è Bastawi che, rassicurante e bonario come sempre, ci fa ciao con la manina?
