Inter: Moratti si dimette da presidente

FC Internazionale informa che il presidente Massimo Moratti, Marco Tronchetti Provera, Paolo Giulini, Angelo Mario Moratti e Angelo Moratti, hanno annunciato stasera le dimissioni dal Consiglio di Amministrazione della Società. Il presidente Massimo Moratti ha indicato al Consiglio il nome del vice presidentre Giacinto Facchetti per la carica di presidente.

Massimo Moratti si è detto comunque intenzionato a non vendere: manterrà la proprietà della squadra.



Un triste epilogo: Moratti meritava di meglio, vista la passione, l'impegno (e i soldi) profusi.

[Tech] Sicurezza: nuovo worm virus Sobig-like

Un nuovo worm virus, identificato come Bagle-A, è stato rilevato in Rete nelle ultime ore.



Il Paese iniziale di diffusione pare essere l'Australia.



Il nuovo virus mostra alcune caratteristiche simili a quelle delle varie versioni del virus Sobig, uno dei più dannosi apparsi su Internet nel corso del 2003:

Comparing Bagle to the infamous Sobig virus that flooded global e-mail networks last year, Zatz fears that a more virulent version of new worm could appear soon.



"One of our biggest concern is that if we look back a year ago at the Sobig variants, they all had drop-dead dates, and every time one hit that drop dead date a new variant came out; a new and improved variant of it," Zatz (security director for Computer Associates Australia) said.



Bagle-A is due to expire Jan. 28, suggesting tuned variations of the worm could appear as early next week.

Il virus arriva sotto forma di e-mail proveniente da un "amministratore di sistema" e contenente un allegato costituito da un file eseguibile.



Ovviamente aprire il file eseguibile significa installare il virus sul computer-vittima.



Il virus a quel punto tenta anche di installare un trojan o una backdoor sul computer infettato, mettendosi in ascolto sulla porta 6777.

Sean Richmond, support manager with anti-virus software vendor Sophos Australia and New Zealand, said the company was still examining the Trojan to see what else it was capable of.



Given that most corporate email servers block transmission of executable attachments, CA's Zatz believes that home and medium-sized enterprise users are responsible for spreading the new worm.

Per verificare l'eventuale presenza del virus sul proprio computer è necessario aprire la directory di sistema di Windows e cercare il file bbeagle.exe.



Per meglio camuffarsi il file usa l'icona della Calcolatrice di Windows - questo, però, una volta saputo cosa cercare, lo rende anche più facilmente identificabile.



Come sempre il consiglio è di aggiornare immediatamente il proprio antivirus e di verificare costantemente, nei prossimi giorni, il rilascio di nuovi ulteriori aggiornamenti o la pubblicazione di eventuali specifici alerts sui siti dei produttori - se poi avete installato un firewall sul vostro PC (cosa sempre consigliabile, anche sui computer domestici) verificate la possibilità di chiudere "manualmente" la porta 6777 (non tutti i firewall personali, specialmente quelli economici, permettono di scendere a questo livello di dettaglio: verificate la documentazione o l'help in linea di quello in vostro possesso).

Microsoft: non c'e' limite all'arroganza - e alla stupidita'

Microsoft, con i suoi comportamenti di tutti i giorni, dimostra ancora una volta di non essere una grande azienda ma solo un'azienda grossa.



Ecco i fatti: in questi giorni il colosso del software ha scatenato i suoi legali contro un ragazzo canadese di 17 (diciassette!) anni, di nome Mike Rowe.



L'accusa: violazione del copyright sul nome Microsoft.



Motivo dell'accusa: il teenager canadese, evidentemente un programmatore in erba, ha aperto un proprio sito (che paura, eh? arriva la Concorrenza con la C maiuscola!) raggiungibile digitando l'URL (attenzione, ecco il reato) MikeRoweSoft.com.



Okay, dov'è il problema, direte voi? Semplice: la pronuncia anglosassone del dominio suona qualcosa come "maicrouwsoft", quindi foneticamente molto simile a "maicrosoft": ecco quindi che i nostri eroi hanno pensato bene di punire i tinti e di raddrizzare i torti chiedendo che a questo pericolo pubblico diciassettenne venga impedito di continuare a usare il dominio in questione e a perpetrare le illegalità ad esso collegate: violazione del copyright e (sic) concorrenza sleale.



Ecco cosa scrive The Register:

In what could easily be mistaken for an Onion story, Microsoft has unleashed the full fury of its lawyers on 17-year-old Canadian high-school student, Mike Rowe, demanding the handover of his Internet domain.



The domain? MikeRoweSoft.com. No, seriously.



Victoria-based Mike is currently studying maths and chemistry and plans to study computer science at Victoria University next year. He registered the domain in August because he thought it would be cool to have a site that sounded like the famous company to show his Web designing skills.



The Beast of Redmond however reckons that the phonetic domain infringes its copyright and insists Mike hand it over or face the consequences.

Serve aggiungere altro? No, io direi che la notizia si commenta da sola - o, se preferite, che è incommentabile nel suo squallore.

Fra un anno la poliomielite potrebbe essere un ricordo

Nel corso di un incontro fra i responsabili della Sanità dei Paesi dove la polio è ancora una malattia endemica è stato dato il via a una massiccia campagna di vaccinazioni che dovrebbe coinvolgere all'incirca 250 milioni di bambini sotto i cinque anni e dovrebbe portare, se tutto va come previsto, alla scomparsa di questa malattia dal pianeta.



I sei Paesi dove la polio non è stata ancora definitivamente sconfitta sono Nigeria, India, Pakistan, Niger, Egitto e Afghanistan.



La Global Polio Eradication Initiative è partita nel 1988, e fino a ora ha permesso la vaccinazione di due miliardi di bambini, coinvolgendo oltre 200 Paesi e 20 milioni di volontari; nel 1988 oltre 1.000 bambini al giorno morivano di poliomielite in 125 Paesi: nel corso del 2003 si sono contati in tutto 677 casi di polio in tutto il pianeta.



La malattia avrebbe potuto essere sconfitta forse già nel corso dello scorso anno, ma una assurda e criminale propaganda degli integralisti islamici di uno stato della federazione nigeriana, che asserivano che il vaccino antipolio fosse una qualche sorta di arma batteriologica degli Occidentali, aveva fatto vietare la vaccinazione dei bambini da parte delle autorità locali.



Ora pare che questa follia sia finita, e le vaccinazioni partiranno regolarmente anche in Nigeria: speriamo che sia la volta buona.

Irak: As long as it takes

Riporto qui il commento di Alì e di Mohammed, due dei blogger (il terzo si chiama Omar: sono fratelli) che mandano avanti il blog Iraq The Model, all'ennesima strage terroristica perpetrata a Baghdad da quelli che in Italia alcuni si ostinano a definire "partigiani" e "resistenti".



Sempre stamattina, per la cronaca, la polizia irachena ha disinnescato due bombe piazzate davanti a una scuola a Baghdad: un'altra brillante azione degli eroici partigiani - notare che oggi, domenica, per i musulmani è giorno di lavoro: se le bombe fossero esplose, sarebbe quindi stata sicuramente una strage (di "feroci ragazzini imperialisti", verrebbe da chiedere a quelli di Campo Antiimperialista e ai vari Casarini?)

As long as it takes.



Once again, the soldiers of darkness try to spread their theory, the theory of horror, among our people to in desperate desire to stop the wheel of life.



I mentioned in a previous post that they’re targeting life in its; opportunities, childhood and hard work. And I mentioned that we –as Iraqis- have decided to go through this war as we believe in our just and legal cause. And I hope that no one will be misled to think that the target here is the Iraqi model alone.

No, they’re targeting freedom as a principle of life.



Yes, I say it once again; we’re fighting in a (war on behalf). And when we ask for the free world’s help, it’s because we feel that it’s a war of all the free and it's just another step in a long hard, yet unavoidable struggle.



We’re not doing a favor for the others, and no one is doing us a favor; the concerns are common, and the war is everyone’s responsibility.

Our failure is your failure too, and also our success is yours too.



And away from emotions, vulgar as this may seem, I think it's true: People who think that the USA will simply pull out of Iraq because of these attacks prove that they are less realistic than they think they are. The failure in Iraq will simply doom any future step to fight terrorism to failure. And even if the majority in America is against staying in Iraq for another year or two, one should not over estimate the power of American public opinion.



This is certainly not Vietnam or Somalia and whether we (Iraqis as well as Americans) like it or not, America will stay in Iraq "As long as it takes". There is no safe retreat here, and if you don't believe me wait and time will prove which one of us was optimistic, realistic and right. If I was wrong and America does pull soon out of Iraq, what do you think will happen? I'm afraid that we will both be unsafe, but for different reasons. Iraq will be unsafe because of the risks of theocracy and civil war (2 possible events if it wasn't for the presence of the overwhelming American power).



Yet Iraq will get rid of one threat; the terrorist Mujahideen! Yes these will simply follow your soldiers wherever you go, just as they followed you from Afghanistan to Iraq (they're still functioning there, but their focus now is Iraq). Some will say: do our soldiers have to go anywhere? The answer is simply: yes. You tried to stay away from (the old world's troubles) many times, and what was the result? I'll leave the answer to you.



Everyone should understand this point, and we should repeat it whenever we got the chance, so that the one who sits watching his TV, giving excuses or analyses without feeling bitter about what’s happening to my people or his country men who volunteered to fight in this war and question the need for this war will understand and feel the depth of the conflict.

Our brothers and your sons are bleeding for our sake, for your sake and for the sake of the whole free world.



I wish you can come and see Baghdad’s streets after today’s crime. No one ran away to his home, life didn’t stop, students didn’t quit their exams, banks and shops are still open and police patrols still moving in the streets.

The streets were crowded, and people were shouting loudly this time "LET THE MUJAHIDEEN GO TO HELL".



Terrorists say "we want death more than you want life" I say "we want life more than death, because it’s God’s gift, and we appreciate his gift".



We will not give our lives up, the doctor will stay in his hospital, the policeman will keep doing his duty and the soldiers –from all over the world- who chose to fight will stay in their positions.



You must remember this well; no one is safe from the threats of the terrorists or their violence, but we’re determined to keep up the work.



I’m not trying to look like a saint, yes, we have our fear and anxiety but we dream and work, and your soldiers and our policemen and soldiers sacrifice their lives in the hope of achieving peace and freedom not only in Iraq, but also (in the near future as I believe) in the whole region. For as long as there are still dictatorships and totalitarian regimes in neighboring countries, Iraq, America and the whole world will never be safe.

I’m looking forward for the future, and I’m sure about victory in this war, and we must never lose our belief in the coming victory.

We will not let the pessimistic and those who try to let us down have their bad effect on our determination.

We will all pass this period, and then we shall celebrate the rebuilding of Iraq, and then cowards will have no place among us.

Avevo pensato di scrivere un mio post sull'attentato di oggi, ma direi che quello dei blogger iracheni dice già tutto, e lo dice molto meglio di come avrei saputo fare io.

Mars Mission a Trojan Horse?

È quello che si chiede Suneel Ratan su Wired, rilevando che Bush ha stanziato per la base lunare e per il successivo sbarco su Marte solo un miliardo di dollari a quinquennio in più rispetto all'attuale budget della NASA:

President Bush's plan to go to the moon and to Mars without much additional funding will force NASA and Congress to make hard choices -- particularly regarding the space shuttle and the hugely expensive International Space Station, observers said.



The Bush plan increases NASA's budget by just $1 billion over the next five years. That means the space agency has to figure out how to carry out the mission -- first a return to the moon and later a trip to Mars -- without a lot of additional money in its budget.



The first places to look for resources are the station and shuttle, which consume about a third of NASA's $15 billion budget. One question that's sure to arise -- assuming Bush's vision for the moon and Mars sticks -- is whether to kill the station and shuttle now, instead of in six to 12 years as the plan currently envisions, said Howard McCurdy, a space historian at American University in Washington. That would free up at least $25 billion over the next five years to go to the moon and Mars.



"Logically, if we want to go to the moon and Mars, we should be shutting things down now," McCurdy said.

Insomma, per ora il Progetto Marte potrebbe essere un modo elegante di tirarsi fuori da iniziative internazionali particolarmente dispendiose, come appunto la Stazione Spaziale Internazionale e il telescopio Hubble, e per accelerare la messa in pensione e il rimpiazzo degli ormai obsoleti traghetti spaziali della serie STS (meglio conosciuti col nome commerciale di Space Shuttle).
