Kerry telefona a Bush e ammette la sconfitta

Direi che questo chiude la questione, salvo improbabili colpi di scena dell'ultimissima ora:

E alla fine John F.Kerry ha gettato la spugna. Dopo un'intera giornata vissuta sul filo di lana, il candidato democratico ha telefonato al presidente uscente George W. Bush per ammettere la sconfitta. Un'uscita attesa dai repubblicani e che dovrebbe, ma il condizionale d'obbligo, vuotare di senso la battaglia legale che si stava per ingaggiare sull'Ohio, lo stato che non ha ancora assegnato i suoi 20 Grandi Elettori. A spoglio ultimato infatti la situazione è la seguente: 254 grandi elettori assegnati al presidente in carica, contro 252 dello sfidante democratico John Kerry. Per vincere ne occorrono 270. Ma per assegnare ufficialmente i 20 punti decisivi occorre procedere prima alla conta dei voti provvisori, quelli non ancora scrutinati perché i cittadini che li hanno espressi non erano iscritti nelle liste elettorali per problemi amministrativi. La Casa Bianca, da parte sua, non ha dubbi: Bush ha vinto, il vantaggio di cui gode in Ohio è "statisticamente insormontabile".

E, come nota Zibordi citato da I Love America,

In parole ancora più semplici per una serie di ragioni storiche attualmente ti raccontano un mucchio di balle e te ne accorgi perché ogni volta che viene eletto un Reagan o un Bush nessuno lo capisce.



Esempio: sentivo alla radio e in TV un tono di dubbio e sospetto su questa elezione.



Bene. Era dal 1988 che un presidente non veniva eletto con la maggioranza assoluta dei voti, ad esempio Clinton è stato eletto con il 43% dei voti nel 1992 e con il 49% dei voti nel 1996 (e Bush ha vinto come tutti sanno con il 48% nel 2000).



In termini di delegati e di stati Carter nel 1976 ha vinto contro Ford per due soli stati di differenza nei quali aveva un vantaggio sui 10 mila voti e nessuno ha chiamato gli avvocati o avanzato dubbi (Kennedy molto peggio).



Oggi Bush vince con il 51,3% e lo stato in cui ci sono più "dubbi" è l'Ohio in cui ha 140 mila voti di vantaggio.



Paragonata alle elezioni presidenziali americane del passato è una vittoria netta, 51% dei voti, 4 milioni di voti di differenza su una affluenza record, lo stato più "contestato" in cui hai 140 mila voti di vantaggio.

Colpiscine uno per educarne cento

Theo van Gogh, 47 anni, diretto discendente del fratello del grande pittore Vincent Van Gogh, è stato ucciso in Olanda da un giovane marocchino.



Si tratta di un omicidio politico: Van Gogh aveva ricevuto minacce di morte da estremisti islamici dopo che la tv olandese aveva trasmesso il suo film "Sottomissione" sul Corano e sulla violenza contro le donne nella società islamica.



Ora stava girando un lungometraggio sull'assassinio di Pim Fortuyn, il leader politico olandese ucciso da un estremista nel 2002: non lo finirà mai, i nazisti islamici hanno provveduto a tappargli la bocca una volta per tutte.



Certo quel buffone falso e arrogante di Michael Moore non corre di questi rischi: i suoi "documentari", in realtà dei volgari polpettoni propagandistici degni di un indymediano qualunque, sono premiati a Cannes, sono diffusi in Medio Oriente da organizzazioni di stragisti islamici come Hamas, vengono citati nientemeno che dal Grande Uomo in persona, Osama Bin Laden, e in Italia vengono trasmessi in TV e distribuiti in allegato ai soliti "giornali indipendenti" (ma indipendenti da che? dalla realtà dei fatti, verrebbe da rispondere).

Un omicidio dai risvolti inqiuetanti. Il regista Theo van Gogh, 47 anni e nipote del grande pittore, un controverso regista ed editorialista olandese noto per aver girato un film sulla violenza contro le donne nella società islamica (Submission), è stato prima accoltellato e poi ucciso ad Amsterdam con un colpo di pistola.



Il sospetto assassino è stato arrestato da un poliziotto che era nelle vicinanze che lo ha disarmato dopo averlo colpito con la pistola ad una gamba.

Il procuratore Leo de Wit che si occupa del caso ha spiegato che il sospetto assassino che è stato arrestato, ha 26 anni ed è di origine marocchina, pur possedendo la doppia nazionalità marocchino-olandese.



CHI ERA LA VITTIMA - Van Gogh autore di 20 film alcuni dei quali presentati al Festival di Cannes, stava preparando un lungometraggio sulla morte di Pim Fortuyn il leader politico olandese di destra assassinato da un estremista nel maggio 2002. Il film si sarebbe dovuto intitolare "0605", la data dell'omicidio di Fortuyn.

Van Gogh aveva ricevuto minacce di morte da estremisti islamici dopo che la tv aveva trasmesso il suo film "Sottomissione" sul Corano e sulla violenza contro le donne nella società islamica.



Aveva realizzato il film con l'olandese Ayaan Hirsi Ali, una rifugiata somala impegnata in politica che ha ottenuto la cittadinanza olandese dopo essere sfuggita ad un matrimonio combinato 12 anni fa. La donna è sotto la protezione della polizia dopo aver ricevuto minacce di morte a seguito della trasmissione del filmato sulla tv nazionale olandese.



LA REAZIONE DEL GOVERNO - Il primo ministro olandese, Jan Peter Balkenende, e il ministro della giustizia, Piet Hein Doner, e quello per gli affari interni, Johan Remkes, hanno anticipato la riunione del Consiglio di sicurezza nazionale, prevista all'Aja. "È una situazione orribile che non possiamo accettare", è stata la reazione del governo olandese affidata al ministro della Giustizia. Il primo ministro olandese ha linvece anciato un appello per evitare che sul movente dell'omicidio di Van Gogh "si giunga a conclusioni affrettate". "Faccio appello a tutti affinchè non si traggano conclusioni affrettate" sui motivi dell'assassinio, ha detto in un comunicato stampa il premier olandese che definisce Van Gogh "un campione della libertà di espressione". "Sarebbe inaccettabile se la libertà di espressione fosse all'origine di questo brutale omicidio", ha sottolineato il primo ministro. Anche la regina Beatrice - in un comunicato della casa reale - ha commentato l'omicidio dicendosi "scioccata e stupefatta" da quanto avvenuto.

La Bild: dieci motivi per sostenere Bush

Il più diffuso quotidiano tedesco, la Bild, si schiera dalla parte di Bush ed elenca dieci motivi per preferirlo a Kerry:

1. Bush has clear priorities. He sees the inhuman Islamic fundamentalism and the murderous mullahs as the largest danger for the Western world.



2. Bush has learned the lessons of history. Military strength, not pleasant talk, is the only thing that helps against violent fanatics. And with Bush — unlike with Kerry — there is no doubt about this.



3. Under Bush, the US, as a superpower, will continue to bear the financial, military and casualty burden in the fight against terrorism in a "holy war" which Islamic fanatics unilaterally declared. [It’s ultimately about the cash-flow, Damen und Herren. —ed.]



4. Along with fighting terror and the terrorists, a re-elected Bush will do everything he can to prevent nuclear proliferation. That is especially true with regard to the nuclear ambitions of Iran and North Korea.



5. Bush has learned that America can defeat every country in war, but needs allies in peace. Thus, his second term will be characterized by cooperation with international partners. But he will not depend on how Syria or Libya vote at the UN.



6. Bush knows that Europe and Germany don’t have the military at their disposal to become involved in any further foreign military engagements. Therefore he won’t ask them for help. Kerry will do exactly that — and will further burden already damaged German-American relations.



7. Under Bush, America will remain a reliable partner for Israel in its fight for survival. That must especially be in our German interest.



8. Republicans have always been stronger supporters of free trade than Democrats. That is also true of Bush when compared to Kerry. And that is good for Germany as an export nation.



9. Every new American administration makes mistakes. Bush has already made his. Kerry, on the other hand, has of yet held no (executive) position in the government. He would be worse prepared than most Presidents preceding him.



10. With Bush, we know what to expect. With Kerry, nobody knows what he stands for and where he wants to lead America — and the world.

Russian special forces troops moved many of Saddam Hussein’s weapons and related goods out of Iraq and into Syria in the weeks before the March 2003 U.S. military operation, The Washington Times has learned.



John A. Shaw, the deputy undersecretary of defense for international technology security, said in an interview that he believes the Russian troops, working with Iraqi intelligence, "almost certainly" removed the high-explosive material that went missing from the Al-Qaqaa facility, south of Baghdad.



"The Russians brought in, just before the war got started, a whole series of military units," Mr. Shaw said. "Their main job was to shred all evidence of any of the contractual arrangements they had with the Iraqis. The others were transportation units."



Mr. Shaw, who was in charge of cataloguing the tons of conventional arms provided to Iraq by foreign suppliers, said he recently obtained reliable information on the arms-dispersal program from two European intelligence services that have detailed knowledge of the Russian-Iraqi weapons collaboration.



Most of Saddam’s most powerful arms were systematically separated from other arms like mortars, bombs and rockets, and sent to Syria and Lebanon, and possibly to Iran, he said.



The Russian involvement in helping disperse Saddam’s weapons, including some 380 tons of RDX and HMX is still being investigated, Mr. Shaw said.

Irak: armi convenzionali e campagna elettorale

Nelle ultime ore Kerry e i media a lui favorevoli (e, naturalmente, gli inutili idioti di casa nostra) hanno strillato a più non posso che le 380 tonnellate di esplosivo sparite da un deposito militare di Saddam sono un fallimento clamoroso dell'amministrazione Bush e della sua gestione della sicurezza in territorio iracheno.



Peccato, però, che l'esplosivo in questione sia sparito prima dell'arrivo sul posto delle truppe americane:

But tonight, NBCNEWS reported: The 380 tons of powerful conventional explosives were already missing back in April 10, 2003 -- when U.S. troops arrived at the installation south of Baghdad!



An NBCNEWS crew embedded with troops moved in to secure the Al-Qaqaa weapons facility on April 10, 2003, one day after the liberation of Iraq.



According to NBCNEWS, the HMX and RDX explosives were already missing when the American troops arrived.



"The U.S. Army was at the site one day after the liberation and the weapons were already gone," a top Republican blasted from Washington late Monday.



The International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors last saw the explosives in January 2003 when they took an inventory and placed fresh seals on the bunkers.



Dem vp hopeful John Edwards blasted Bush for not securing the explosives: "It is reckless and irresponsible to fail to protect and safeguard one of the largest weapons sites in the country. And by either ignoring these mistakes or being clueless about them, George Bush has failed. He has failed as our commander in chief; he has failed as president."



A senior Bush official e-mailed DRUDGE late Monday: "Let me get this straight, are Mr. Kerry and Mr. Edwards now saying we did not go into Iraq soon enough? We should have invaded and liberated Iraq sooner?"



Top Kerry adviser Joe Lockhart fired back Monday night: "In a shameless attempt to cover up its failure to secure 380 tons of highly explosive material in Iraq, the White House is desperately flailing in an effort to escape blame. Instead of distorting John Kerry’s words, the Bush campaign is now falsely and deliberately twisting the reports of journalists. It is the latest pathetic excuse from an administration that never admits a mistake, no matter how disastrous."



Why is the U.N. nuclear agency suddenly warning now that insurgents in Iraq may have obtained nearly 400 tons of missing explosives -- in early 2003?



NBCNEWS Jim Miklaszewski quoted one official: "Recent disagreements between the administration and the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency makes this announcement appear highly political."
