[Tech] Konqueror e KOffice su Mac OS X

[Tech] Anno nuovo, vecchi problemi: worm virus colpisce MSN Messenger

Known as Jitux, the worm is self-propagating and contains a link to a Web site that automatically downloads an executable file named "jituxramon.exe" to the PC. Once the file runs, the worm begins sending out copies of itself to all of the names in the user's Messenger contact list. The worm, first discovered Tuesday, is capable of spawning multiple instances of itself on one PC.

Nielsen//NetRatings, reports that three out of every four home and work Internet users, or 76 percent of active Web surfers, access the Internet using a non-browser based Internet application. Media players, instant messengers and file sharing applications are the most popular Internet applications.

The top five applications are Windows Media Player, AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, MSN Messenger Service and Real Player. Of these top five applications, Windows Media has the largest active user reach at 34 percent. AOL Instant Messenger was next at 20 percent, followed by Real Player also at 20 percent, MSN Messenger Service at 19 percent and Yahoo! Messenger Service, which reaches 12 percent of the active user base.

[Tech] Wired: 101 Ways to Save the Internet

Alcuni seri, altri meno.
  • Unleash vigilante justice on spammers One activist has proposed filters that launch distributed denial-of-service attacks back at spammers. Great. Just make sure we have the right addresses first.
  • Demand truth in advertising for software updates C'mon, AOL 9.0 is really AOL 8.0 with the version number increased 1.0
  • Declare spammers are terrorists And put Ashcroft, Ridge, and Rumsfeld on their tails
  • Dump the Digital Millennium Copyright Act
  • Build a .sex red-light district Icann, the committee that assigns top-level Internet domains, refuses to create an adult zone that can easily be kept from kids' eyes. Porn won't disappear, so deal with it.
  • Offer real RIAA amnesty Instead of telling us to delete MP3s or pay a fine, how about you let us pay a fair price to keep them
  • Pass a White Hat Protection Act Hackers who find holes in corporate networks should get thanks, not handcuffs
  • Scramble archived addresses Online archives of mailing lists are a treasure trove for spammers. Give members the option to have their addresses scrambled in posts
  • Create a P2P email program We directly trade MP3 files, instant messages, and now phone calls without the bother of backend servers. So why not email messages?
  • Upgrade to IPv6 The next-gen Internet protocol will improve security and add 340,282,366,920,938,463,463,374,607,427,473,244,160 IP addresses - enough for everything, ever
  • Publish Creative Commons for Dummies The open copyright licensing system is pure genius. But you need to be a genius to use it.

Thousands of people streamed through the streets of Hong Kong on New Year's Day to demand greater democracy in the biggest march since huge protests in July shocked local leaders and Beijing.

Shouting "We demand more democracy," "Return power to the People" and "One man, one vote," political activists, workers and families filed slowly from a park in the busy Causeway Bay shopping district toward government offices in central Hong Kong.

Before they set off, religious groups prayed that Hong Kong people would be allowed to elect their own leaders.

"We want full democracy -- the right to elect our own chief executive and all members of the Legislative Council," said Richard Tsoi, a spokesman for the organizers who also led the July 1 march, which drew half a million people into the streets.
